"Protecting children in child protection system" is a two-year project financed by the Daphne III Programme of the European Commission and involving Italy, Bulgaria and Romania. The project aims at allowing social care providers (public, local authorities and non profit organisations) to detect, evaluate and face all kinds of violence against children in residential care, with the specific objective of the empowerment of social care providers (local public authorities and not for profit organisations), in favour of children victims of violence.
Different forms of violence are being taken into consideration: direct violence (physical and psychological) and indirect violence (due to an inadequate protection system and to long-term institutionalisation).
After a first analysis of the situation in each different country, the Italian, Romanian and Bulgarian research groups decided to address the issue through an approach that is both common in the general framework and adaptive to each specific context and social care system.
This includes training sessions with social care providers on issues related to violence, as well as on-site visits and common discussions with operators.
The project will publish, at the end of 2010, research results and workbooks for operators with suggestions and tools in order to prevent, monitor and assess violence issues, still present in Europe.
