'In 2009 Eurochild carried out a survey of the situation in Europe of children living in alternative care including residential, community and family-based care. It attempts to provide an overview of the numbers of children concerned, the profiles of children in care, their outcomes, the institutional framework and availability of data, and the existence of standards and support for children's participation'.
The results of the basic survey, in Italy conducted by Amici dei Bambini, will be presented today 27th January at the European Parliament in Bruxelles in a specific round table and soon published at www.eurochild.org .
Data are still alarming. 1 million children live without parental care in Europe and institutional care settings still predominate in many EU countries.
